How to Buy the Right type Changeable Reader Board Letters

The two most frequently used types of changeable letters are Rigid and Flexible. The thickness of the letters is designated in mils. Usually the thickness will be .030 mil, .060 mil, or .080 mils thick for the plastic back. Flex Change letters are often called portable sign letters and are.030 mils thick which permits them to be very bendable and will flex to go into into the Flexible Sign Letter Track. Flex Change track is double slotted with each slot the same depth.

Rigid type acrylic letters will be thicker measuring form 060 mills to 080 mills depending on the brand and don't have to be bent to go into the sign letter track. They are designed not to be bent to put on the sign. To insert into the track the letter is pushed up into the bottom slot of the top track at an angel the the letter is pushed against the sign face and allowed to fall into the bottom track. To remove just reverse the procedure. It that simple.

To measure the size of letter a sign needs, measure how tall or the height the letter is, then measure how tall or heigh the plastic panel the letter is on, and finally how thick the letter is. If the letters measures 6 inches tall it is probably on a plastic panel that is 6 7/8 inches or 7 inches high. Most sign are tracked so a 1/8 inch difference panel height will fit into the tracks. Getting the plastic panel height is important because this holds the letter in the tracks on the sign.

If you don't have a letter to measure then you can measure the inside distances between the tracks and take into account the grooves that the letters fit into. You can then cut out a piece of poster board paper and try it to see if it fits. Most sign letters have similar measurements and you can check online the sizes offered and find the size that closest fits your measurements for you cut out a blank to test fit.

Finding the right size and kind of flat changeable copy letters for a sign is not hard but does take a few steps to make sure your order the right letter. Measuring and checking the letter height, panel height and thickness and compare the type of sign letter track with your sign supplier offers and compare any pictures of their track with the track that matches your sign. Follow these simple steps and the right changeable letter that fits your sign .8)
